How do Price Adjustments Work?

If you buy a product and it goes on sale for a lower price than you paid, you can get a refund through the merchant’s Price Adjustment or Price Protection policy for a certain number of days. Usually, refunds are applied to your original form of payment. For example, if you paid with a Credit Card, the refund would be applied back to that Credit Card.

Let’s say you bought a toy from Toys “R” Us for $49. Ten days later, the same toy goes on sale for $30. Except your Son or Daughter has been playing with the toy so you can’t return it. Not to worry, all you have to do is notify Toys “R” Us to claim a refund.

Step 1: Keep your receipt and know store policies

Step 2: Mark your calendar

Add a daily reminder to check the price of your purchase online for price drops, coupons or sales. Most Smartphones or calendar apps allow you to set up these reminders.

Step 3: Claim your refund

Once you identify a lower price, stores generally offer a few options to claim your refund depending on how you made your original purchase:

• Online Purchases: Depending on the store you will need to send an email to the Customer Service department or call Customer Service directly.
• In-store Purchases: Stores generally require you to present your receipt in-store at the location you purchased the original item.

What if my favourite store does not offer Price Adjustments

Not to worry, all hope is not lost. You could purchases the EXACT same item again and then return it with your original receipt with the higher price if it is within the return window.
